You’re probably aware that the Brisbane City Council has a number of waste recycling centres that are used for rubbish removal in Brisbane. These are located at Willawong, Nudgee, Ferny Grove and Chandler. Domestic ‘dump vouchers’ get sent to rate holders and these can be used to cover fee’s for the disposal of waste at the refuse centres.
Recently the council announced a waste levy (paid to the Qld Government) that is affecting local Brisbane rubbish removers. The levy was put in place back in July 2019 to discourage interstate trucks coming across the border to dump rubbish in Queensland. The levy has very little effect on household wheelie bins. It does however impact local rubbish removal companies who now have to absorb the levy of $70 per tonne making a huge impact on business. Whilst we applaud any initiative to recycle more and reduce landfill, the increase is significant (almost double what we have previously paid at the refuse stations) and does have an impact on our business.
